In the responses to the following list of Frequently Asked Questions, we provide the latest advice and guidance for students and staff about accessing library services and resources.
As the situation continues to evolve, please check back regularly to find the most up-to-date information on the university's library services.
Yes. You will need to pre-book an individual study space at Boots, Brackenhurst, Clifton or Mansfield library in order to access the building.
Bookings can currently be made one week (seven days) in advance.
First, check the current opening hours of your preferred sub-library, and then pre-book a study space for the date and time you require.
Study spaces are available in both Quiet and Silent zones, and with and without a PC. Study spaces are available for three-hour periods, with pre-defined start and end times.
Arriving at the library for you pre-booked session, you will be required to follow the following health and safety measures:
Printers are available in the libraries if you've booked a study space or, if you're on the City Campus and would rather not book a study space, you can:
It is possible to renew library items that you have on loan yourself in the My Account section of Library OneSearch and Library OneSearch Pro.
However, the library has now activated the auto-renewal of items, which means that any item on loan from the library's own stock will be automatically renewed to a later due date - so long as there is no issue with your library account.
The due date of items that are on loan to staff and students from other libraries, such as the British Library, will also be extended where this is agreed to by the lending library.
Library items required by other borrowers may be recalled and should be returned to the library if requested. You do not need to book a study space in order to return library items.
The library is currently not encouraging students to return items that they have on loan, unless specifically requested to do so.
If you wish to return any items on loan during a pre-booked visit to one of the site libraries, you may do so. But you should not visit the library simply to return items that you have on loan.
A Click & Collect service is available for those who have not booked a library study space. Place a request via Library OneSearch and we will make the item available for collection.
You will receive a confirmation email when the item is ready to collect (normally within 24 hours, excluding weekends, after requesting). Please wait until you have received the confirmation email before travelling to campus.
It is not necessary to book a study space in order to collect requested items, although you will need to book if you intend to stay and study within the library.
Libraries across the country have suspended the inter-library loan of physical books and other materials. LLR will attempt to source an electronic or online version of any material needed by a student or member of academic staff.
Please use the Get My Book or Get My Journal Article services to request such material.
Where no electronic version of your request is available, the library will try to recommend an alternative that is available in a digital or online format.
Yes. The full range of the library electronic online collections (including many tens of thousands of eJournals and eBooks) continue to be accessible 24/7. Almost all of these materials can be accessed from any off-site location.
